(6-9 P. M. Friday September 10 and 9 A. M.- 5 P. M. Saturday September 11)
Owen Anderson, Ph. D., is the founder of Educatedrunner.com, the web site which bridges the chasm between the scientific and athletic communities. Owen is the author of three books on running— Lactate Lift-Off, Great Workouts for Popular Races, and Aurora, and he is currently writing a book for Human Kinetics Publishing called The Science of Running. He has enjoyed a successful career coaching both mortal and elite runners, including Benjamin Simatei (winner of the elite Park Forest 10-Mile Race in Chicago, Illinois), Catherine Dugdale (seven-time Welsh cross-country champion and British representative at the Commonwealth Games), and Diane Palmason (four world records and winner of the Fifth-Avenue Mile) - and has written extensively on the topic of strength training for running. Owen has traveled to Kenya on five different occasions to study the training habits and nutritional practices of elite Kenyan runners, and he is the only man of Swedish descent to be initiated as a Kalenjin warrior. Owen is the developer of the “neural system” of training endurance runners, a program which de-emphasizes mileage and promotes the use of high-quality running and intense running-specific strength training to achieve optimal running fitness. Noted English running coach Frank Horwill (founder of the British Milers' Club) says, “Owen is brilliant and lucid on all topics related to running.”
